What means „cold isostatic pressing“?

Share article

“Cold isostatic pressing” means the compression of powdery and granular materials using hydraulically generated pressure. This press method is one of the primary forming production processes and creates solid bodies with a geometrically defined shape.

The pressure is generated with the help of a pressure intensifier or a hydraulically controlled pump. The direction of action of the generated pressure is – compared to the axial press method – more extensive, as isostatic generated pressure acts on the powder from all sides.

Advantages of isostatic pressing:

  • Even density distribution in the pressed parts
  • Pressed parts with great lengths can be produced
  • Spherical parts can be pressed
  • Thin-walled parts can be pressed
  • Complexe geometrical parts can be pressed
